Glossary:

Asset - In the broadest terms, an asset is intellectual property, in the form of custom source code, that a company has developed. More specifically, an asset is either a piece of custom source code or a design guide that is applicable to a specific business software platform (SAP, Lotus Notes, Tivoli,...), that a customer has developed. The product category shows some types of assets, as well as examples of each.

Asset Homepage - Overview document that describes an asset. The asset homepage contains links to the asset documentation and the download site.

Asset Repository - Searchable database of assets available for sale. Anyone can search the asset database, but only registered B2BSX customers can view an asset homepage.

Asset Submission Form - On-line form filled out by Sellers to list an asset in the Asset Repository. The form contains key information regarding the asset that can subsequently be used for Buyers to search against.

B2BSX - Brand name for the software exchange

B2BSX Customer - A company with a valid customer account. Only companies that are primarily consumers of software may become B2BSX customers, therefore consulting firms, individual consultants, and software vendors are prohibited from participating in the Exchange.

Buyer - Any B2BSX customer that sells assets on the Exchange.

Buyer-Seller Relationship - A B2BSX customer can, and hopefully will, be both a Buyer and Seller of assets.

Exchange - The process or operation of the business software exchange

Helios Works, LLC - Operator of B2BSX, the first business-to-business software exchange for the sale of platform-dependent custom business software applications. Helios Works, LLC leverages a patent for the operation of such an exchange.

RICEFwe - Development requirements on ERP implementations are typically broken down into the categories of: Reports, Interfaces, Conversions, Extensions, Forms, workflows, and EDI.

Requirement Document - On-line form filled out be a Buyer in the event that they cannot find a suitable asset in the Asset Repository, and wish to communicate the need to the larger B2BSX community.

Requirement Repository - Searchable database used to store Requirement documents posted by Buyers. B2BSX community members can view the requirement and link an Asset to it, but information identifying the Buyer is hidden.

Seller - Any B2BSX customer that sells assets on the Exchange.

TCO - Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) is the total cost of a computer asset throughout its lifecycle, from acquisition to disposal. Total Cost of Ownership is the combined hard and soft costs of owning business software assets. 'Hard' costs include items such as the purchase price of the asset, implementation fees, upgrades, maintenance contracts, support contracts, and disposal costs.
